How to Make Your Own Unique Music Box

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Monique Hawkins For the music box and antique collectors who are creative and love arts and crafts, making a music box of their own can be fairly easy and great fun. Here are simple directions to make an exquisite music box called “Peter Cottontail”. These unique directions are from Sharon Ganske’s book, “Making Marvelous Music Boxes”. Material Needed For the Base, Including Music Box Accessories: Round chipboard box, 2 high and 5″ diameter; Square of wood, 2 X 2 X ” thick; 18-note key-wind musical movement, including a magnetic swing arm Key extendeder; 3/8″ T-bar winding key “; 4 wooden beads, ” Decorative Accessories for Music Box 3 prepainted resin bunny figurines, 2″; Prepainted resin Easter tree, 3 ” ; Round beveled mirror, 5″ diameter; “-wide pink braided net ribbon; 16″; 5″ wide floral-print ribbon, 24″ Acrylic Paint Colors Ivory and Medium pink Adhesive and Spray Sealer: Hot glue sticks; Industrial strength glue; Tacky glue Tacky glue; thin-bodied Matte spray sealer Tools and Brushes Drill with ” drill bit; Glue gun; Old paintbrush; ; Paintbrush; Scissors Once you have gathered all of the above materials, it is time to start making your music box. Here are the directions to assemble it. Step One: prepare the chipboard box. Since these boxes are sometimes flimsy, they must be reinforced with by placing hot glue around the inside bottom edge of the box (side and bottom) and them allowing it to harden. Next, just apply a heavy layer of Tacky glue to the inside sides of the box and let them dry. Step Two: using a paintbrush, paint box and lid with the ivory acrylic paint. Paint the beads with medium pink. Step Three: Cut one strip from the net ribbon, 15 ? X 2 “, and one 4 ” circle. Using the thin-bodied Tacky glue, laminate net ribbon strip to side of box, lining up top edge. Cut small notches to side of box, lining up top edge. Cut small notches in ” overhang, laminating to box bottom and making sure it is flat and smooth. Centering, laminate 4 ” circle to box bottom. Step Four: Using your industrial strength glue, glue square of wood to inside center front of box bottom to which musical movement will be glued. Allow to dry. Step Five: To mark the hole position for the winding-key shaft, place musical movement inside box at front center (seam is at back). Draw a line around the musical movement. Remove musical movement and place a dot of paint on winding-key shaft. Press the musical movement, winding-key shaft side down, back in the box. Remove the musical movement and drill a ” hole in box, centering winding-key shaft in the hole. Step Six: Using the industrial strength glue, glue beads, evenly space, to the bottom of the box for legs. Glue the musical movement into the box, centering the winding-key shaft in the hole. Step Seven: Using Tacky glue, glue the lid on the box. Glue the braided trim to the side of lid. Glue the magnet that comes with the musical movement to the bottom of the bunny that has been chosen to dance and twirl. Allow to dry. Step eight: Wind the wind key extender onto the winding key. Wind the wind key extender onto the winding-key shaft so music can play. Place a bunny with magnet on top of the mirror. Place the tree at the center back of box and remaining bunnies on each side of the tree. Move the tree and bunnies so the dancing bunny does not bump into them. When they are in the right position, glue them on with a small amount of industrial-strength glue. Make sure excess glue does not seep from under the figurines and onto the mirror. Making music boxes does not have to be difficult. With a little creativity and imagination, the music box and antique collector can create their own collection! Mortgage Broker Marketing - Refining with Permission

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Jeffrey Nelson Are you a mortgage broker marketing to Realtors? How many times have made a call to a Realtor and found them incredibly annoyed because youd interrupted their day? Did they read you the riot act or tell you how much they enjoy working with your competition? One of the most challenging aspects of mortgage broker marketing is getting the Realtors attention. Its frustrating to be given the cold shoulder, especially when you know that more often than not the Realtor spends a significant amount of time socializing with others in the office. You know that its not the agents time alone that is the problem. Why spend any more time marketing to Realtors that arent interested in working with you? When you use permission marketing, your mortgage broker marketing efforts are far more productive. In essence, permission marketing means acquiring permission to pursue relationships with Realtors. Like most relationships, you dont automatically create a friendship or connection. Instead, you seek out permission to move to a new level in the relationship, with each level creating a stronger bond. Through your mortgage broker marketing, youll take a series of steps. Each step is taken with the intention of gaining permission to take a relationship to that new level. Heres an example of acquiring permission. Each marketing piece is an opportunity to get the prospect to grant permission; permission to move the relationship deeper. Lets say you create a marketing mailer. Your goal with this mailer is a simple, yet small step. The mailer should be designed to get the agent to call, email or request information from you, such as a free special report, CD, or video. Their action of requesting information can also be considered as being granted permission. Next, the goal of the special report or CD isnt a sales presentation, instead its an opportunity to gain another level of permission. The report or CD should convince the Realtor to meet with you. This time, you are seeking permission for a personal meeting. Again, your goal with each stage is to gain permission for increased contact with the prospect, and to gauge their interest. With each level, your relationship deepens until you create a lifetime relationship with the prospect. Permission Marketing Means Providing Benefits With each contact, you seek permission to continue to market to the prospect. But those contacts cant be mere information exchange. Each contact has to provide a benefit to the prospect and be relevant to the prospect. Your goal is to establish yourself as a resource and a partner to the Realtor. The more you provide this foundation, the more the Realtor pays attention to your marketing. Permission Marketing Means Providing Bite Size Pieces With mortgage broker marketing using the permission process, you extend information gradually to your prospect. Imagine being stuck on a plane with someone who immediately gives you their entire life story. How frustrated are you by the end of the flight? Do you want to continue to stay in contact with this individual? Probably not. But you are far more likely to be intrigued with a relaxed give and take. You can use this concept with your permission marketing plan. You develop your materials in a step by step process that gradually shares information. With frequency, your prospect develops a level of familiarity and trust with you. At that stage, your relationship can develop into a productive lifetime relationship. Your mortgage broker marketing plans dont have to rely on the whims of your prospect. Develop your plans to gradually get additional permission from the prospect, and youll eventually have a big pay off. What is Organic Food?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Vickie Adair When I first started hearing about organic food, I was a little confused since all food, scientifically speaking, falls into the carbon-based organic category. But, in the world of grocery shopping organic specifically refers to foods which meet the U.S. Department of Agricultures set of national standards concerning properly certified organic foods. Only products certified by the USDA can be sold as officially organic in the U.S. Any producer who neglects to follow these guidelines, and has previous certification by the USDA is fined per offense. So, what we really need to understand is the USDA guidelines. Ideally, the USDA standards ensure that foods labeled organic are produced without the use of pesticides, fertilizers, hormones, additives and other chemicals that conventionally produced dairy, meat, vegetable and fruits may contain. The USDA has strict regulations for certifying organic fruits, vegetables, and grains. All organic plant products must grow from fields that have been certifiably organic for three years or more (without using pesticides, or fertilizers), and post-harvest handling must also be conducted under USDA guidelines. However, a transitional label may be given to farms that are converting their farming methods from conventional to organic before the criteria are actually met. Under meat and poultry guidelines, animals must be raised without growth stimulants, hormones or antibiotics to be certified as organic. They must also have access to certified organic pastures outdoors, clean water and bedding, as well as exercise and fresh air. All organic meat and poultry processing plants are regularly inspected by USDA officials. Packing plants must isolate organically raised/fed animals from conventional herds. Plants that pack organically raised animals must be cleaned to organic specifications, before the product is run. Dairy products from all dairy animals, including cows, sheep and goats may be certified organic. Farmers raising animals for organic dairy production must also adhere to strict guidelines. Animal feed must be 100% organic, and produced on the farmland, untreated with synthetic fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides and herbicides. The feed must be untreated for at least three seasons prior to harvest, before it can be fed to an animal whose milk will be converted into an organic dairy product. The animals themselves must be raised without drugs, such as antibiotics and growth hormones. These products include cheese, milk, yogurt, butter, sour cream, ice cream, and cottage cheese. Certified organic milk may never be blended or come in contact with non-organic milk. In accordance with standard hygiene, dairy safety procedures, including pasteurization, organic certification also requires other specifications: humane treatment of animals, clean water and bedding, exercise, fresh air, and access to an outdoor pasture. The USDA organic seal also indicates the exact amount of organic content in the food which ironically never has to be 100%. To be certified organic, the food product need only be 95% organic. Varying degrees of organic foods are also noted on organic labeled foods with more than one ingredient: organic (at least 95%), made with organic products (70%-95% organic ingredients), less than 70% organic (containing less than 70% organic ingredients). Other labels note a foods exclusion from hormones, antibiotics, and other chemicals found in conventional foods. Using a Treadmill to Lose Weight Faster

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Joseph Ducat Do you feel uncomfortable with the way your figure appears in a mirror lately? Do you feel awkward wearing certain types of clothes, especially those that fit close to the body? Are you concerned about your body image? Well, it is probably time for you to work on losing some weight and getting your body into shape. And it is really not that difficult provided you are willing to put in some real dedication and effort. One excellent way to start is to hop on an exercise treadmill and just keep moving. A treadmill is good for getting into shape because it aids you in performing a simple aerobic workout that will work to burn off excess fat. A regular session on a treadmill for a period of time will soon result in your losing weight. Not only that, you gain in endurance and cardiovascular strength, which is especially good news as this can improve your chances of preventing or beating heart disease in the future. Also, after a week or more of doing treadmill exercises, you will find that your body has become more energetic. You will find the exercises difficult at first, but in a short time you will find that you are just breezing through them because you have so much energy. There is no need for you to do running exercises on a treadmill if you dislike them, or if you find them too difficult because you are severely overweight. Walking on the treadmill is an excellent route to fitness on its own. The great thing about it is that in time, your simple walking exercise will help reshape your body closer to your ideal figure. If you have become used to walking on a treadmill and it has become too easy for you, then you can take up power walking to get more of a challenge and even better physical results. You should definitely think of getting a treadmill for your home. Going to the gym and using the treadmills there is fine, if that is what you prefer. However, what if your main purpose there is to use the treadmill and nothing more? Then it would be silly to get a gym membership just to do that. You might as well just get a treadmill of your own. There are a great many models on the market, some of them surprisingly inexpensive. Of course, you do want quality for your money. I recommend getting a motorized treadmill with a computer that can monitor your progress and heart rate. I hope you liked my article on losing weight on a treadmill. How to Get Started With Internet Banking

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By John Gibb The specific ins and outs of how your Internet banking will work vary depending on which bank youre with. However, there are many things that banks do the same or very similarly, so it is worth taking a second to learn about how Internet banking works in general as well as reading the information your bank sends you. To begin with, you have to register for Internet banking, if you didnt do it when you set up your account. This is generally a matter of simply walking into your bank or phoning them and saying Id like to sign up for Internet banking. They will then send you a series of letters with various PIN numbers and passwords (occasionally including a physical security device with a numeric keypad), along with instructions on how to use them to access your Internet banking. Once youre in, you should be presented with a list of your accounts (if you have more than one) or a list of your recent transactions. This allows you to quickly see the status of all your accounts and what has happened to them recently. From here, you can access pages where you can make various kinds of one-off payments, and set up or cancel regular payments. To make a one-off payment, such as a bill payment or sending money to someone elses account, you will need the person or companys bank account number some banks will have a list of utility bills already built in to the website. Simply type in this information on the payment screen, together with the amount, and click pay. The money should reach the other account within 2-3 working days. Setting up regular payments is a little more complicated. Again, you need the numbers and amounts, but you also need to know the start date, end date, and how often you want the payment to be made. Be careful of exactly when you set your payments to leave your account, as the bank will often charge you a large fee if there is no money in the account when the payment is scheduled to be made. Relax, And Open Up With Sandalwood Oil Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Emma Sanford Plant Origin: Indonesia, India Extraction Method: Steam distilled from wood Sandalwood is probably one of the most well-known scents when it comes to the fragrances that are used in incense, and there’s a very good reason for that. Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil of Sandalwood has been researched for its ability to oxygenate the pineal gland, which is thought of as the seat of emotions. The smell of Sandalwood Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil is calming and relaxing, which makes sense in connection with the pineal gland, which is responsible for releasing melatonin, a compound that enhances deep sleep. Sandalwood Oil is the perfect accompaniment to a session of yoga or meditation as it can help open the mind, aid meditation and encourage spiritual growth. It can also aid in reducing the feelings of stress, ease symptoms of depression and relieve tension. In addition to all these wonderful uses, Therapeutic-Grade Essential Sandalwood oil is said to be helpful as a support for the immune system. It has been used for supporting such diverse ailments as urinary tract infections and strep throat. Therapeutic-Grade Sandalwood Essential Oil is also good for the skin and is useful for balancing both oily and dry skin. It can also be helpful as a treatment for acne. It is suitable for all but the most sensitive skin without diluting. One of the most wonderful things about Sandalwood Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil is that it gets better with age. If you find a product that you like, buy as much as you can afford and your stash will serve you well for years to come. One of the biggest problems with sandalwood oil is that the price is increasing all the time. The demand for sandalwood is such that there are fewer and fewer trees, trees are being cut illegally and harvested improperly, and sandalwood oil is often quite expensive but lower quality than it used to be. All of this means that it can be difficult and expensive to purchase Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oil of Sandalwood, but if you can find it, it is certainly worth the investment. RECOMMENDATIONS: Sandalwood Oil is a wonderful tonic when the stresses of life are getting to you. It can help calm and open the mind as well as soothing internal problems as well. As with all therapeutic-grade essential oils, make sure you wash and rinse your hands thoroughly before and after using sandalwood oil and avoid getting it in your eyes. If you are pregnant or under a doctor’s care, check with them before using this oil. It is generally thought to be safe for children over the age of 2 and is considered non-irritating. Keep therapeutic-grade essential oils out of the reach of children — This entire article is available for reprint electronically or in print, for free, as long as it is done in its entirety, and the bylines are included.
