Bathing Suit Season - A Lifestyle Guide

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Heather Dominick To prepare ourselves for the Summer Sun we want to do more for ourselves than just watch what we eat. We want to get every part of ourselves moving, metabolizing and breathing. 1) Exercise First Thing - Start in the morning. Move and breathe for at least 30min to an hour. Studies show that exercising in the morning burns up to 3x more fat than working out at any other time during the day. When you wake up in the morning your body doesnt have any carbohydrates stored to burn as energy so it turns to burn body fat to burn for energy. Your metabolism also boosts after your morning movement and stay elevated throughout the day. An elevated metabolism throughout the day only means that youll burn more calories and lose more weight. 2) Breakdown Your Goals - One of the main reasons people fail to meet their goals is they set up unrealistic expectation or extremely complicated goals. Most of us have the tendency to jump to the end product without paying much consideration to what it actually takes to get there. Take a look at what I mean: My goal is to lose 8 - 10 pounds for the summer. My goal is to lose 1 pound a week to feel comfortable in my bathing suite by July 4th. 3) Get Your Sleep - You have heard me say it before and I will keep saying it if you want to improve your health and manage your weight get your right amount of sleep. For most people it is at least 8 hours of sleep. For some it is more, for some less. But if you are thinking you are of the less category because you stay up to watch television or do work, I encourage you to really be honest with yourself. Your body has to have time to recharge every night so it’s fresh, ready and the metabolism is boosted to face the activity of the next day. How To Maintain A Spray Tan

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By David Kay Is it safe? Yes, DHA has no known toxicity and has been approved for cosmetic use by the FDA, the Canadian Health Ministry, and most of the EU member nations Should I be concerned if I have a skin condition?Conditions such as Psoriasis or excessively dry skin could cause patchy or uneven results. Care should also be taken to prevent DHA colouration of the hair and nails, barrier creams such as Vaseline are ideal for this. What is DHA? Dihydroxyacetone is the main active ingredient in all sunless tanning preparations. It may be used alone or combined with other tanning components such as erythrulose. DHA is considered the most effective sun-free tanning additive. History lesson DHA (naturally derived from sugar cane) used to be given to children who suffered from a condition where they couldnt naturally produce glucose in their own bodies. The children received doses of DHA by mouth which was sometimes spilled onto the skin. Healthcare workers noticed that the skin turned brown after a few hours of DHA exposure. Thus the tanning effects of DHA were discovered!! What sort of tan will I get? Suntana spray tan will temporarily make your skin a lovely golden brown. The chemical reaction physically changes your skin colour. Our solution has been well-tested in order to ensure that it looks exactly like a natural tan. Even fair-skinned clients who dont tan easily will benefit from a Suntana spray tan. How do I prepare for a Spray Tan? You should exfoliate before spray tanning. Shaving the legs is also a good idea as this can help to exfoliate the skin. Exfoliating allows the solution to dye the layer of skin that is likely to last the longest. You should also apply moisturiser to the tops of the feet, elbows & heels and remove makeup / deodorant prior to a spray tan How do I maintain my tan? After a spray tan, you must not shower for a minimum of four hours; this allows the DHA to take full effect. Over the following days the top layer of your skin naturally sheds in order to give way to newer skin. Because that top layer of skin is the part that’s dyed by the DHA, the tan wears off gradually. So, to extend the effects of the spray tan, you must use moisturiser regularly How long will my tan last? A tan can last up to 10 days if maintained properly www.suntana.co.uk Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=David_Kay http://EzineArticles.com/?How-To-Maintain-A-Spray-Tan&id=356889 free and bible himself study about guide way matthew if christian a backing me track how hook’s it jesus and laughing be teachings what of which jesus should

Dating In New York

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Ron Zvagelsky New Yorkers are an interesting lot. Because of their focus on their careers, they tend to be thought of as power-hungry or very ambitious. In truth, they fear loneliness, and so they turn to bar hopping to meet singles like them. Being a New Yorker means that your career comes first, though in reality, the people are looking for that special someone who they can share their life with. Theyre not a snobbish people they just find it harder to commit. New York has a corner for everyone. There are arcades, bowling alleys, and pool halls for fun dating. Colleges for intellectual pursuits, gyms for those who want to experience physical fitness together, parks for romantic walks, and spoken word lounges for the intellectual and spiritual type. For specific spots, Mars 2112 is the place for a fun date. For something more formal, the Water Club and Manhattan Grille are sound choices, and for formal Italian, Brunellis the place to go. If you just want to sit down and have a nice leisurely date, go to Central Park or Washington Square Park. Bars are not that romantic, though clubs with good music are nice. Theres the Midtown, the Lower East Side, The Knitting Factory, and Tribeca. If its the classical arts your date craves, bring him/her to the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. And for a really interesting afternoon, drop by Union Square bookstores, costume stores, and music stores galore. If you cant afford an expensive date, take her on a ride on the Staten Island Ferry at sunset. Feel the suns rays and the winds touch, and enjoy the beauty around you. 4 Natural Home Remedies to Ease the Pain of Sunburn

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Angela Perin At some time or another, weve all experienced the effects of sunburn be it a light burn or a more heavy burn. Although the sting of regret of inadequate protection (from UV exposure) can be an excellent incentive to plan more carefully on future occasions, its of little help in soothing the immediate physical sting (i.e. pain) accompanying sunburn. However if you have found yourself having spent a little too much time in the sun, — here are 4 natural home remedies to help ease the pain of sunburn, and assist in the bodys healing process: 1. Cool Milk Compresses: - The fat and lactic acids in milk are known to have soothing qualities for sunburned skin. Soak a soft cloth or cotton gauze in cool whole milk, and dab carefully onto the burned skin. Do this for around 20 minutes, and follow by rinsing off with cool water. (Due to the importance of the milks fat content, its important that whole milk be used in this treatment). 2. Cool, sugarless tea: - The tannin in tea is the active ingredient here, which helps to soothe and relieve some of the discomfort of sunburned skin. After brewing a big pot of tea, and allowing it to cool completely, slosh the affected areas with a soft sponge or washcloth. As with the vinegar (4), you could also fill a spray bottle, and spray the tea directly on the skin. And dont throw away the used (cool) teabags. These are especially good for sensitive areas around the eyes simply place the teabags over your eyes if they feel hot and tired. (If you have St. Johns Wort, consider using this as it contains cooling properties, which can help tone down some of the heat in your skin, as well as soothing the nerve endings damaged by the sunburn). 3. Aloe Vera: - Aloe Vera is commonly used to treat sunburn. As well as providing soothing relief, it may also assist in the healing process. Apply to the affected areas as needed. Although the gel extracted directly from an aloe Vera plant works best, if you dont have ready access to one, you may use an over the counter Aloe Vera Cream that contains the gel. For this to be effective, just ensure that the cream contains a high concentration of Aloe Vera than it does water or other solutions. 4. Water: - When exposed to the sun, your body loses water and essential body salts. Dehydration occurs when your body loses too much fluid, and begins to reabsorb fluid from the blood and other body tissues. To prevent the consequences of dehydration, increase your fluid intake to ensure you adequately re-hydrate your body for optimum recovery and health. Sunburn should of course be avoided where possible — particularly as its adverse affects not only include damage to the skin, but also the increased risk of skin cancer. Prevention and protection should always be considered the best treatment for sunburn, and will assist in ensuring your optimum long-term health! DISCLAIMER: These are home remedy tips only, and should not replace your regular health care provider. If in doubt at any time in relation to your sunburn, please seek the appropriate health care assistance. Fat Lady in a Thin Body: WLS Patients Feel Like Imposters

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Kaye Bailey Every weight loss surgery patient Ive met said they at sometime during the weight loss experience felt like a fraud. A fraud is someone who pretends to be what they are not, an imposter. Given this definition, of course we feel like a fraud! Almost overnight we become the exact opposite of what we have been for many years. We are in fact a fat person masquerading in a thin body. Of course we feel like a fraud! Weight loss following gastric bypass is so fast and consistent; there is no time to pause and become familiar with ourselves as our size diminishes and our health improves. So, while the body adjusts to its new healthy weight, our mind is slow to catch up. It still sees a fat person and this smaller body is alien and unknown. It is an imposter. A disguise. A fraud. Be assured, this phase of fraud is normal and consistent among people experiencing rapid massive weight loss, it is part of the transformation. Be comforted knowing feelings of fraud will pass. As we become familiar with our down-sized dimensions the haunts from our morbidly obese days will pass. If a bariatric patient after several years of successful weight maintenance rapidly regained the weight they would feel as much a fraud in their new super-sized body as they did in their newly trimmed body. Feelings of fraud are certain to result when a change is as rapid and effective as gastric bypass weight loss. For many patients, a different feeling of fraud is manifest when others start to notice and comment about the weight loss. In addition to managing our own feelings of change, we must manage feedback from others, much of which is unsolicited. Patients who have kept their surgery private feel fraudulent when they answer Im losing weight by eating less, controlling my sugar and fat intake and exercising all of which is true. Patients who speak openly about their weight loss surgery may be told surgery was easy way out of obesity. They may hear about surgeries gone bad, get the warnings about regaining the weight, and be treated to a host of other myths. This feedback can cause us to feel fraudulent. One weight loss patient said it best: what I find both interesting and sad about bariatric patients: we are ashamed when we are fat, and we are ashamed when we do something about it. It is not fraudulent to be medically treated for a disease that is killing you. The weight loss surgery patient who accepts this as fact successfully overcomes feeling like a fraud. That patient celebrates the miracle of modern medicine and a second chance at living. I used to tell my husband, Im nothing but a fat lady masquerading in small clothes. He didnt like me to talk that way about myself and asked, if your best friend succeeded at losing weight by whatever means medically available to her would you talk to her the way you are talking to yourself? If your best friend were treated for a life-threatening disease with the best medical science has to offer would you say she was a fraud for undergoing that treatment to save her life? He made an excellent point. I no longer feel like a fraud, but I miss the wonder and awe that was associated with the newness of rapid and massive weight loss. During that time I was shocked to see my own reflection and awed by the little clothes that fit me. I studied in wonder every body part, the way it moved and felt and looked. I counted my ribs and rolled my fingers over my hipbones Id never felt that before discovering the miracle of the human skeleton. Nowadays its all commonplace: this is who I am. It is no longer a surprising shock. I no longer feel like a fraud. Kaye Bailey is a weight loss surgery success story having maintained her health and goal weight for 5+ years. Sun Tan Warnings and Precautions

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Tim Gorman As the summer months get closer many people begin to prepare themselves for a very common and soothing activity known as sun tanning. In fact lots of folks have already started working on their tans for summer in the privacy of their own home or in a tanning salon. They are able to achieve nice dark tans through regular tanning sessions with commercial tanning beds and supplies. Speaking of tanning supplies you would probably be surprised at the number of tanning bed supplies that exist on the current market. Items such as tanning lotions, tanning bed parts, fans, tanning accelerators, sprays, lamps, clothes and even tanning tattoos all add to the ability to achieve and enhance your tan in your home or at a commercial tanning salon. If youre in the market for tanning supplies you need to make sure and conduct some research, especially when considering the purchase of tanning sprays, lotions and accelerators. The difference between a good purchase and a bad purchase can have you looking orange instead of the golden brown tan youre hoping to achieve. Another thing to consider when tanning indoors with a tanning bed is the danger to your skin cells. Even though a tanning bed may be safer then obtaining a tan using the suns direct rays its still not completely healthy. The reality is excessive use of tanning supplies when combined with an abundance of tanning could cause a common form of skin cancer known as melanoma. Many health care specialists readily agree that an overexposure to UV rays can be harmful to your skins health. The main difference between a natural tan and an indoor tan can be found in the type of UV rays used to achieve the suntan. Commercial tanning beds use UV-A rays while the sun emits UV-B rays. Tanning bed experts would argue that UV-A rays are better for you because they decrease your chance of suffering a sunburn when compared to the harmful effects of UV-B rays. Additionally they also advocate the use of UV-A rays and sun tan beds because they have been proven to help produce a high concentration of vitamin D which assist in preventing dangerous diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis and even certain forms of cancer. No matter what you believe or read, when using an indoor tanning bed exposure should be limited to a few timed sessions each week of say 15 or 20 minutes in duration. Increased tanning times greatly improves the odds of the powerful UV rays that are emitted from the tanning bed bulbs being able to damage the cellular structure of your skin. There have been some studies shown that tanning beds should be limited to folks that are no longer teenagers as a precaution to prevent overexposure to harmful rays and to prevent serious damage which could result in skin cancer at a later time in that persons life. As you can see even indoor sun tanning can be dangerous to your skin and your health when abused and used excessively. If youre planning on working on your tan for the summer in a commercial tanning bed (whether in your house or a tanning salon) make sure to make smart decisions and limit your exposure time to the tanning lamp rays. Smart sun tanning will not only allow you to achieve that dark golden brown tan you so desperately seek it will also keep your skin safe and prevent you from contracting skin cancer at a later point in your life. Short Term Loans

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Steve_Valentino]Steve Valentino When a lender gives money or property to a borrower, and the borrower agrees to return the property or repay the borrowed money along with interest at a predetermined date in the future, this is called a loan. A loan is a type of debt. Like all debt instruments, a loan entails the redistribution of financial assets over time, between the lender and the borrower. The borrower initially receives an amount of money from the lender, which is paid back, usually but not always in regular installments. This service is generally provided at a cost, referred to as interest on the debt. Acting as a provider of loans is one of the principal tasks of financial institutions. For banks, loans are generally funded by deposits. For other institutions, issuing debt contracts such as bonds is a typical source of funding. A short-term loan covers cash advances, fast cash, cash loans, paycheck advance, loan till payday, quick cash loans, instant cash loans, emergency cash loans and so on. In case you need help to meet unexpected bills, or other short-term cash needs, you can get the money you need with a short-term loan. Some people also take out short-term loans to pay for vacations. These loans are not intended to be a long-term financial solution, but for immediate cash needs. The annual percentage rate and terms of the loan vary by state. A short-term loan is a loan between 8-20 days. Monthly pay customers are subject to an extra finance charge due to being more than 20 days. The cost is dependent on the amount of the loan issued. Yellow and Orange Flags in Relationships

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

By Lucia Demasi Its been said that love is blind. It may also be deaf and dumb, but in this article Ill deal with the onset of blindness that occurs at the beginning of a relationship. When you first meet someone youre attracted to, your eye sight isnt 20/20. You dont/dont want to, see the person for who they really are. Just as the USA currently has a color coded terror alert, there is also a personal alert system that goes beyond the well known red flags. I believe there are smaller warning signs of trouble up ahead. I call these: Yellow and orange flags. BLASTS THE STEREO IN THE CAR: Guys are usually more guilty of this than girls, since our ego isnt tied to our stereo. If the guy is under 21, okay, hes immature. If hes between 21 and 30 and the music is so loud you can hardly carry on a conversation, theres probably a maturity issue here. If hes over 30, it becomes an orange flag. BREAST IMPLANTS: Unless the implants were for work related reasons (actress, bikini model, stripper, etc), or because the breasts were disfigured (pregnancy, breast feeding, medical reasons), I believe this is a yellow flag. Unfortunately, this society has given women the message that they are less than if they are anything less than a C cup. That is still not an excuse for falling into this trap. You cant find your self esteem in your cleavage. My motto is: The bigger the implant, the lower the self esteem. If you meet someone with a DD cup and shes not in the above professions, it becomes an orange flag. HOW DO THEY HUG? I once dated someone that stood there like a robot whenever I hugged him hello/goodbye. Another guy only hugged with one arm. Talk about noncommital. Both guys are no longer in my life. If a guy cant/wont hug properly, hes got issues. Its a yellow flag. STICKS TO YOU LIKE GLUE: Ladies, have you ever dated someone who would hold your hand the entire time (and I do mean, the entire time) you were at a nightclub together? I bet they also accompanied you to the bathroom and waited outside for you. How did it turn out? Exactly. This is not normal, male behavior. The guy that did this with me is a big time player (of course, I didnt know it at the time). He wanted to show me off, and make sure everyone knew I was with him, so that no one would try to approach me. The other explanation for this is that the guy is from another country. In that case, it would be a yellow flag. Otherwise, its orange. Proceed with caution. POINTS OUT ATTRACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITE SEX: There are several reasons for this. The person is insecure about your feelings for them, so they want to make you jealous and see your reaction. Yellow flag. The person was raised by wolves and doesnt know what is acceptable social behavior. Orange Flag. The person is upset with you about something and is using this as a way to get back at you. Orange Flag. SOAP OPERAS: Watching a soap opera is the equivalent of reading a Harlequin romance. How many guys do you know that read romance novels? Exactly. I think the only time a guy should be watching a soap is if hes actually on it! I can understand him wanting to see his performance, otherwise, its a yellow flag. YOUR TEARS: How does a guy react the first time you cry? I once called someone I was seeing casually because I was upset about something that had happened with another guy the day before. His reaction was concern and he said, Did he hurt you? It sounded like he was ready to take action if the guy had hurt me. However, the first time I cried with a guy that I was dating, his reaction was to get out of the house as fast as he could. If a guy doesnt know how to handle a woman thats crying, he may not be mature enough to be in a relationship. If he expresses anything but concern the first time you cry, its an orange flag. NO CELL PHONE: Believe it or not, there are actually people out there that still dont have a cell phone. I know some people cant afford it, but do you want to be dating someone that has such bad money management that they cant afford $50 a month for something thats almost as important as the air we breathe? Then there are those people that simply refuse to accept new technology and are rebelling. Do you want to be dating a Ted Kaczynski? Finally, there are those that dont give you a reason. Theyre probably hiding something (like a spouse or partner?) I once went on a date with someone from the S.W.A.T. team and he claimed he didnt have a cell phone. Oh, please. If theres one profession where you better be easily accessible, that would be it. We only had two dates and then he disappeared. No cell phone is an orange flag. NO EMAIL: This is similar to the above flag. If they cant afford a computer, theyve got other things they need to be doing with their time instead of dating-like getting their act together. I recently met a girl at a party that took several group pictures in which I was one of the subjects. I wanted to get copies of the photos and asked for her email. She said she didnt use email. As I stood there with a puzzled look on my face, wondering what kind of person didnt use email, she said, If someone wants to communicate with me, they have to call me. Hey, I just want copies of the photos. Is a phone call really necessary for that? Needless to say, shes single. This is a yellow flag. TV: You know those people that need to have the tv on all the time, even if its just in the background? Theyve got issues. They probably dont want to be alone with their own thoughts and if all is quiet, thats what would happen. As one becomes more evolved, they start to understand that silence is golden and they welcome some quiet time alone. If they dont want to spend time with themselves (without a tv in the background), why would anyone else want to spend time with them? This is a yellow flag. Fat Loss Secrets of Fitness Models

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Craig Ballantyne Fat loss is easy once you understand how hard it is. Once you realize that fat loss is hard work, and not just as easyas eating some celery, drinking really cold water, and slammingdown some “metabolism boosters”, that’s when you’ll really start toget results. When you accept sticking to your nutrition program will take effort, only then will you start planning and preparing your nutrition tomeet your fat loss goals. Same with exercise. When you understand that harder workouts aremore effective, then you’ll start to plan your workouts accordingly. Over the past year I’ve interviewed over a dozen fitness models(men and women) for Oxygen and Maximum Fitness magazines, and theirsecrets to success are as plain as day. They know it is going to be hard work to get ready for aphotoshoot, but what do they know that you don’t know? First, they’ve got their nutrition plans down perfectly. And when Isay planned out, I don’t just mean they have a meal plan torn outof a magazine. Instead, they have their shopping lists prepared. They have time set aside for cooking, cutting, and chopping. Thesemen and women have more than enough tupperware to store and freezetheir food for the week. Fitness models take their meals with them and aren’t so naive as tobelieve that they will be able to find something “healthy” at workor on the road. They are not willing to sacrifice results forconvenience. They have accepted the hard work that comes witheating for fat loss. Have you? Second, fitness models know what works - not only in the kitchen, but also in the gym. They’ve recorded their workouts, studied theeffects of various exercises, rep ranges, and workout frequencies. They have accepted that their can be NO guesswork in a fat lossworkout program. That’s why fitness models plan their workouts inadvance, and write down the results in a training log for analysis. If you aren’t doing that, then you’re doing nothing more thanplaying a workout “lottery” and hoping you’ll come up lucky. Third, and perhaps most importantly (because its hard to have thefirst two factors without this one), fitness models surroundthemselves with a supportive environment and social support groups. How many fitness models do you think are married to sedentary, overweight smokers? How many fitness models do you think hangaround men and women that start drinking at 4pm every Friday? Having the right social support group and supportive environmentcan make or break your fat loss program in less than a minute. Research shows this. Experience proves this. All it takes is a bunch of co-workers to surround you at your deskwith a box of doughnuts and pressure you into “having just one”.The next thing you know its 3 days later and you haven’t had adecent meal since. According to the research on social support for fat loss, there areat least 2 proven ways to harness the powers of others for your fatloss goals. First, include a health professional in your social support group. This could be your doctor, a nutritionist, or a trainer that yousee on a regular basis. But you need to be accountable to someone. This will work best for those of you that can’t find support amongyour family, friends, or co-workers. Second, if a member of your social support group also loses weight, you’ll have a greater chance of succeeding. So try and get familymembers, friends, and co-workers directly involved. Get them fromcheerleaders to active participants in the fight against fat.
