Intimate or Grand - What Size Should Your Wedding Be?

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

By Lesley-Ann Graham It is a practice in most cultures for the groom to visit the parents of the bride and ask for their blessing; though in some cultures the couple just goes and announces their engagement and wedding plans. Usually, once the dust from the rounds of kissing and hugging die down, the mothers in particular will begin making suggestions about what must be done for your wedding and who must attend. This is wonderful. It is always great to have your families help and support. It can become a headache though when they keep saying that each relative will feel bad if you don’t invite them when truth is you’d never even heard of Cousin Michael. A major consideration in any wedding is, how many guests will there be? Left to your family, they may want you to invite all your relatives, plus all your friends and some neighbors. They turn your nuptials into a reunion or a fiesta for everyone they know. Years later, you look at your wedding album and wonder, “who in the world were these people in the pictures?” One thing that will help you decide on how big your reception will be is your budget. The bigger your budget, the more guests you can have. Of course, the same is also true. You may actually prefer to keep the number of guests down so that you’ll have more to spend on your trousseau. It can also help make your nuptials more solemn and memorable to have a more intimate union. Of course, there’s always the choice to elope in case you really want the numbers almost nil. The bottom line is, it is your wedding and your special day. You should be surrounded by the people you love and choose to be present on this very special day. So talk it over as a couple and invite the people who mean the most to you to be present. Organic Gardening

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

By Ross Bainbridge Organic gardening is gardening that uses no harmful chemicals. It is healthy and has become a popular trend among gardeners. Growing an organic garden is not as hard as it may seem, and the following tips should help you start and maintain an all natural, healthy flower or vegetable garden. Three of the most important elements to growing a successful organic garden is mulching and pest control. Mulching helps hold water, reduces weeds and adds essential nutrients. You can either purchase organic mulch, or if the plants require acid, lay a thick bed of pine needles in the fall. Make sure you are not using mulch that has been artificially colored; although the coloring preserves the look of your mulch even after it gets old and dry, it is not organic and may contain chemicals that can contaminate your otherwise pristine mini-ecosystem. Pests are always a problem in any garden. To hold them at bay in an organic garden you can rotate a spray of soapy water followed by clean water on the infected stems, leaves and buds of the plants. Weeds can be treated with vinegar. Compost is also important for an organic garden to added essential nutrients. It can be made from almost anything you have on hand including ground up leftovers, leaves and grass. If you want to plant herbs for organic cooking, they make great landscape plants in the organic garden and don’t need a lot of attention. Mix in some annual flower plants for a creative, colorful blend. Gardening provides detailed information on Gardening, Organic Gardening, Flower Gardening, Gardening Supplies and more. 4 Internet Job Search Mistakes to Avoid

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

By Kevin Donlin The Internet is the most powerful employment tool on earth. Hands down. With the Web, you can access millions of job openings on thousands of sites. With email, you can quickly contact employers and ask for interviews. Yet, if used incorrectly, the Internet can actually prevent you from being as productive as possible in your search for work. How? Why? Here are four mistakes that commonly befall job seekers using the Internet. Avoid them, and get hired faster. 1) Don’t Email Your Resume Wrong I’ve written before (http://www.startribune.com/stories/1416/4371900.html) on how to create a text version of your resume for emailing to employers. Because not everybody has Word or WordPerfect, the only way to be sure employers can read your resume is to email them a version in plain old ASCII text. Make sure the resume you email looks good upon arrival, with no funny line breaks or garbage in the text. How? Use yourself and at least two friends as guinea pigs. It’s easy. Practice formatting and emailing your resume to yourself and others. Open the email. How does your resume look? Good? Good. Garbage? Reformat and repeat until your resume goes through cleanly every time. 2) Don’t Forget The Email Cover Letter When emailing your resume to employers, don’t dash off email cover letter as an afterthought or, worse, fail to include one. Treat email as you would postal mail — always email a solid cover letter with your resume. Your cover letter has many functions. Chief among them are telling the reader what job you’re applying for, where you learned of the job, and your specific qualifications for doing it. And don’t get sloppy with tone or punctuation in email cover letters. You’re not banging out an instant text message to buddies. You’re writing a letter to the person you want to work for. There’s a difference. 3) Don’t Be Passive It’s easy to sit back and wait for postings to appear on the big job sites, like Monster. But if you confine yourself to this passive technique, you’re missing out. That’s because most jobs are filled by employers before they’re ever advertised online or in the newspaper. By some accounts, this figure is as high as 80%. So it pays to be proactive — use the Internet to get into the heads of hiring managers before they pay for a job posting online. An easy way to do this is to use a networking Web site, such as Linkedin.com or Ryze.com. At Linkedin.com, for example, you can search profiles of 1,214,000 registered users (as of this writing) to find people who went to your school, have the same hobbies, live near you, etc. You can also find out where these people work — and this is critical. Because, once you find and contact someone who shares an affinity with you, and works in the company or industry you want to work in, you can make valuable connections that lead to interviews and job offers. Tip: never approach networking as a one-way street. You become road-kill and get ignored that way. Instead, give back to the people you meet, online or off, before expecting them to favor you with job leads. You must prime the pump before you get anything out. 4) Don’t Forget Who Really Hires Throughout history, there is no record of any person ever being hired by a computer. It’s people who hire people. Yet, some folks spend days or weeks searching for jobs online without ever meeting a hiring authority face to face. This is a mistake that happens when you confuse process with results. Using the Internet to find a job is a process. The results you want are a job. At some point, you have to get off the Internet, get off your duff, and go shake hands with live humans. Never lose sight of this. That’s what it all boils down to, doesn’t it? To get hired, you have to meet and impress a living, breathing employer. Go do it! Aromatherapy: Treat Infections with Rose Otto Pure Essential Oil

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

By KG Stiles Rosa damascena’s chemical structure is primarily made up of Monoterpene Alcohols. This synergy has been termed “the cold and flu synergy” as Monoterpenes are known to stimulate expectorant action, as well as have anti-microbial properties. True Rose oil’s chemical structure is less drying than most expectorants and more well tolerated by the kidneys and thus may be used more frequently. Because of the human body’s high tolerance to Monoterpene Alcohols these essential oils may be used more often. It is with repeated use that the effects of True Rose oil become more apparent. True Rose oil is useful for treating pathogenic micro-organisms! Rose oil tones the heart, liver, stomach and uterus. Use Rosa damascena for healing gengivitis, cold sores and gum problems. Rose oil is good for treating digestive complaints associated with emotional upset. Rose oil’s ability to reduce infection and relieve cramps makes it useful remedy for treating intestinal inflammation and a helpful aid for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Crohn’s Disease. FIRST AID BLEND FOR TREATING SKIN INFECTIONS: To a 1 ounce Dispensing Bottle filled with Pure Light Coconut Oil add essential oils of True Rose (5 drops), Lavender (5 drops), and Carrot Seed (5 drops). Shake sealed bottle gently to blend your oils and allow to synergize for 2-3 hours or longer! CAUTION: Please avoid during pregancy due to its hormonal effect. If you do want to use Rose oil while you are pregnant please consult a qualified professional aromatherapist, as some can be especially beneficial in certain situations. PLEASE NOTE: There are many cheap, synthetic copies of aromatic oils, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results purchase the highest quality oils you can possibly find. Use certified organic essential oils, or oils that have been tested and are pesticide free. Aromatherapy is a gentle and noninvasive complementary health care system used for balancing and synchronizing your body, mind, spirit and emotions to enhance your health. Properly administered essential oils are a natural, safe and effective way to enhance your health and well-being and can produce satisfying results where other methods have failed.
